Towards "Fukushima̶Bringing About a Robot Industrial Revolution"

In order to take on the decommissioning of the nuclear reactors resulting from the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant following the Great East Japan Earthquake, and by this, revitalize Fukushima as a whole, the prefecture is promoting robot-related businesses as a new industry and aiming to create "Fukushima Robot Valley."

Basic construction of robotics industries

Fukushima Hamadori Robot Verification Zone(Innovation & cost structure)

This provides bridges, tunnels, dams, rivers, and open spaces in the Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture to companies, universities, research institutions, and other bodies carrying out R&D into disaster control robots and robots for inspecting infrastructure, in which they can carry out verification testing.

Fukushima will create a robot test field in which verification and testing of disaster control and similar robots unique to Fukushima can be carried out. This includes model certification, operator training, licensing, and being a base for use in the event of a disaster on land, air, or sea.

International Industry, Government, and Academia Joint-use Facilities

This will provide joint research facilities, where top-level universities, research institutions, and businesses will be invited, in order for Fukushima to become a leading area in the development of robot technologies.

The center will perform development and verification testing of robots to inspect and repair nuclear reactor containment vessels, as well as verification testing of fuel debris removal.

This promotes the introduction of robots into working and living environments including in medicine, welfare (assisted-living facilities, hospitals, etc.), and primary industries.

This puts out information aimed at raising awareness of robot usage, and of fostering interest amongst young engineers and students. Here, companies, universities, and other organizations can exhibit. This features displays and demonstrations of advanced robots as well as those currently being developed within Fukushima in various fields such as disaster response, reactor decommissioning, medicine and welfare.
